Calculating Your Body Mass Index

See if your weight puts you at risk of health problems

The following chart, which was put together by researchers and later posted in USA Weekend, will calculate your BODY MASS INDEX. The shaded areas also indicate how much you are at risk of having health problems because of your weight.

Find your height on the left hand side of the chart. Follow along on that row until you find your weight (at top of chart). The number in the box at the intersection point is your Body Mass Index (BMI). Scientists have determined that appreciable health risks begin at a BMI of 25.

The color range you fall in also indicates your level of risk of having health problems:

So, if you are in the red zone, your quality of life and longevity are severely at risk. Do something about it!
